October | Shared Spaces, Shared Time

In October, SHIBAURA HOUSE continued to explore new practices across space, creativity, and exchange. From the opening of the Guest Room to dialogues spanning art, agriculture, education, and architecture, each encounter this month invited us to rethink how space can be used and shared.

After six months of planning and construction, the new Guest Room finally opened. We welcomed long-time friends of SHIBAURA HOUSE, the construction team, and sponsors, along with partners from various embassies, friends from Taiwan, and old friends from Amsterdam, for a warm and memorable evening.

Every new project at SHIBAURA HOUSE carries hopes for the future. The Guest Room is not only a place to stay, but also a cultural platform that encourages exchange among people from around the world—bringing connection into everyday life through the act of living.

EXHIBITION |Indigo-dyeing 

Artist: LIN YULING

Location: SHIBAURA HOUSE @4F
We invited Taiwanese artist Yuling to present an indigo-dyeing exhibition on the 4th floor of SHIBAURA HOUSE. Through a careful fermentation process and daily attention, each piece reflects the depth and uniqueness of indigo dye.

Beyond the exhibition, the works were specially designed for our Guest Room and used in everyday details such as bed runners and fabric covers. We deeply thank everyone who joined and supported the exhibition.

Event | Harvest Rice

Location: Ome 
In Ome, we harvested rice straw in this third year. Rice planted in this summer was ready to be gathered in this autumn, and this year we welcomed our own new rice, grown by hand without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.Working in nature and feeling the weight of the rice in the autumn air was a special moment experienced through all five senses. We thank our farming partners in Ome for providing the fields and their continued support. At a time when rice prices in Tokyo continue to rise, this harvest reminded us of the deep connection between food, land, and people.

Visit |Sisi Learn by Space from Taiwan

We met with the Taiwan-based team Sisi Learn by Space to learn how they bring architectural thinking into children’s education. Using architecture as a tool, they help children understand structure, scale, and design through play and imagination.During the exchange, we received their thoughtfully designed learning tools, puzzle-based kits that combine buildings and characters, allowing children to learn spatial thinking through play. These activities were especially popular in Moon Kitchen and our open community spaces, reminding us how space can gently connect learning, imagination, and everyday life.

Event |Happy Halloween!

Every year on October 31st--Halloween, we design a variety of interactive games and costume activities for children from our local neighborhood.This year, we collaborated with a nearby elementary school and nursery school. Teachers brought their students to visit our space, where the children took part in a small quiz game specially designed for them. Afterward, we handed out sweets to everyone.Dressed in their carefully prepared Halloween costumes, the children filled our space like countless little fairies.

EXHIBITION | Taiwan ADA

SHIBAURA HOUSE collaborated with Taiwan’s ADA New Architects Award to create a platform for exchange and sharing among young architects from Taiwan and Japan as the first year. Under the theme ‘Architecture as a Cultural Medium’  the 2025 award program brought together 10 young award-winning architects from Taiwan and 4 architects from Japan for a joint exhibition titled ‘A Shared Future: Taiwan ADA Award in Japan.‘ Through a series of symposiums, forums, and lectures, the exhibition fostered meaningful dialogue and exchange between emerging architects from both countries.

By offering this space, we hope to support conversations across generations and regions, and to explore new possibilities for the future of architecture. We sincerely thank all of Taiwanese staff who contributed behind the scenes.  

Whether through living, creating, learning, or working with the body in nature, these moments came together and continued to grow. We hope these exchanges will keep developing and open up new possibilities across regions and generations.
