大阪・関西万博で開催した日蘭文化交流展が東京に巡回
本展は、2025年5月に大阪・関西万博の文化展示場「ギャラリー・イースト」で公開された特別展で、オランダ・ナショナルデー公式行事として、オランダ ウィレム・アレクサンダー国王陛下ならびに高円宮妃殿下のご臨席のもと開幕しました。
この度、より多くの方々に展示をご覧いただく機会を提供するとともに、日本とオランダの協力関係が万博にとどまらず、今後も継続し未来へとつながることを示すため、東京での特別展示を企画しました。今回の東京開催は、Nieuwe InstituutおよびStudio The Futureの協力のもと、SHIBAURA HOUSEとのコラボレーションにより実現しました。

『Bridging Past & Future（過去と未来のあいだに橋を）』では、日本とオランダのアーティスト、デザイナー、職人による特別な作品やプロジェクトを一堂にご紹介します。異なる文化背景をもつ人々が互いに学び合い、協働することで生まれた様々なアイデアや表現を、一つの空間で体験いただけます。
平戸や出島における初期の日蘭交流から、現代のクリエイティブなパートナーシップに至るまで、日本とオランダの関係は常に好奇心、互いへの尊重、そして知識の共有によって育まれてきました。世界が大きく変化する今、こうした協働はこれまで以上に重要であり、共に取り組むことが相互理解と新たな発想を生み出します。
会場となるSHIBAURA HOUSEでは、11点のデザイン・コラボレーションと4つのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プログラムをご紹介します。各作品は、過去が現在に与える影響や、異なる文化の人々が共に価値あるものを創り出す様子を伝えています。

本展は、大阪・関西万博オランダパビリオン文化プログラム『Activating Common Ground（コモングラウンドの活性化）』の一環として制作されました。本プログラムの核にあるのは「文化は単独では育たない」というシンプルな考え方です。文化は、アイデアや技術、価値観、そして体験の共有によって形づくられます。本展はそのプロセスを紹介するとともに、世代を問わず来場者自身が文化交流の担い手になれる場を提供します。

Cultural Exchange Exhibition 'Bridging Past and Future' – 2nd edition
The embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo will host the second edition of the exhibition Bridging Past & Future. This exhibition was held for the first time at East Gallery at the Osaka World Expo and opened by His Royal Highness King Willem Alexander and Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado on 21 May 2025 as part of the National Day celebrations.
This exhibition is organized with the assistance of Nieuwe Instituut and Studio The Future, and with the collaboration of Shibaura House. The embassy organizes this second edition in Tokyo to give more people the chance to see the exhibition. It is also to emphasize that the collaboration between Japan and the Netherlands is not limited to the World Expo and that the exchange continues.
Bridging Past & Future brings together a special collection of objects and projects made by artists, designers, and makers from the Netherlands and Japan. It offers an overview of a variety of different ideas and creations in one place, each shaped by people learning from one another and working together across cultures.
From the early trade exchanges at Hirado and Dejima to today’s creative partnerships, the connection between Japan and the Netherlands has always been about curiosity, respect, and sharing knowledge. As the world changes, this kind of collaboration becomes more important than everas working together leads to shared under-standing and new ideas.
Here in Shibaura House you will find 11 design collaborations and 4 artist-in-residence programmes. They each tell a story about how the past can inspire the present, and how people from different places can build something meaningful together.
This exhibition was made as part of Activating Common Ground, the cultural programme of the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. At the heart of the cultural programme was a simple idea: culture doesn’t grow alone. It’s built by the exchanging of ideas, skills, values, and experiences. This exhibition celebrates that process and invites everyone, young and old, to be part of it.
