Winter has arrived, and the air is filled with the joy of Christmas and the New Year. As the year comes to an end, time feels as if it has flown by, yet our hearts beat with quiet excitement for what the coming year will bring.

EXHIBITION |Woodlife Sweden

In collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Japan, SHIBAURA HOUSE hosted the exhibition and related programs under the theme “Woodlife.” The exhibition focused on wood as a renewable resource and its key role in contemporary architecture and design. With its vast forest resources, Sweden has long treated wood as a foundation of both architecture and daily life, developing efficient, low-impact timber construction systems through technological innovation and institutional change.

Featuring case studies from across Sweden in architecture, design, and urban planning, the exhibition showed how architects and designers combine traditional knowledge with advanced technology to use wood as a response to climate change and sustainability goals. Through SHIBAURA HOUSE as an open platform, we invited visitors to reflect on how materials, space, and ways of living can reconnect in the context of global environmental challenges, and to imagine new possibilities for future cities and architecture.

EXHIBITION |Damn True Festival

'Damn True Festival' is a collaborative platform jointly initiated by Frontline Fellowship and a Chinese-language nonfiction writing community. The inaugural edition, held at SH, took place over three days and two nights, featuring 15 talks, live dialogues with 40 guests, 6 workshops, 4 music performances, 5 different market booths, and 7 Fireside Chats. The festival aimed to connect Chinese-language nonfiction works with their readers and audiences. Bringing together nonfiction creators from different regions of the Chinese-speaking world, the event fostered exchange and interaction, celebrating the sparks ignited by the intersection of true stories and diverse art forms.On the second day, attendance peaked at nearly 200 visitors. We look forward to the second edition of Damn True Festival and to its long-term future.

Moon Kitchen

On December 8, our TULIP members guided everyone joined the “Handmade Christmas Tree” workshop. Using leftover yarn, simple decorations, and tape, children created Christmas trees in many different shapes, each one full of personality. More than the finished results, everyone enjoyed the process of making, parents worked alongside their children, sharing the collaborative creations with friends or taking them home.

On December 15, we continue worked together to create a “DIY Christmas Tree.” The tree was designed by combining the small trees made the previous week with woven bows learned on the day and various paper-cut decorations. The completed tree now welcomes community members visiting SH each day, bringing a warm and joyful atmosphere as Christmas approaches.

Year-End Cleaning

We carried out our year-end cleaning to prepare for the coming year. From December 22 to 26, this marked the final working week of 2025 at SHIBAURA HOUSE.

Throughout the year, SHIBAURA HOUSE continued to be an open place connecting the city, culture, and people. From summer walks along the Shibaura Canal with children to shared moments in Moon Kitchen filled with cooking, music, and movement, the space brought together families, creators, and neighbors through everyday exchange.

We welcomed students, artists, and delegations from Taiwan, Austria, the Netherlands, various universities and beyond, creating opportunities for cross-cultural learning through exhibitions, talks, and dialogue.

With the opening of the Guest Room, staying our space became part of cultural exchange, allowing art, architecture, and daily life to meet more closely.

Across the year, diverse themes, from architecture and talk event to urban stories,  and memories with different friends over the world across regions and generations. We believe the future of the city grows not only from big plans, but also from daily moments: meals shared, walks by the water, hand-making together, and real encounters between people.We are deeply thankful to all our partners, collaborators, and friends who shared this year of learning, experimentation, and connection with us.
