Designing Cities For ALL: RE-Generation
"(Re)designing connection"

Time: 30th April, 27th May, 24th June

Location: Amsterdam & Japan

How can the concept of connection be better dealt with in this rapidly urbanized world?

SHIBAURA HOUSE is joining a program "Designing Cities for All" by Pakhuis de Zwijger, a cultural and social center striving for social justice. Starting this April, we are organizing a sequence of three events: "(Re)Designing Connection." We invite you to the conversations together with Amsterdam, Tokyo, and beyond.

Episode #1: The Nexus of Humans / 29th April

With all life forms, lies an interconnectedness between humans and non-humans. From the cleaning rituals of monks to simple daily interactions, we are trying to foster connections. How do we recognise and sustain our connection with other humans, non-humans, and cities through different cultural explorations?

Episode #2: The Communities of DenCity / 27th May

This episode aims to understand how we can overcome challenges in densely populated cities and develop connected communities. Speakers explored improving the sense of community by bringing examples from Tokyo, Taipei, Amsterdam, and Mexico as compelling examples of our discussion.

Episode #3: More than Cities / 24th June

This is also a cookie model

25th May - 9th June

Onshitsu (Taiwan)

We invited Mr.Mitsuboshi Azumi from Japan to teach and research the Taiwanese version of the design them ‘This is also a cookie model’. This research is also being conducted at universities in Tokyo, proposing a cookie model that is not limited by existing cookie shapes( ready-made metal frames). For example, trying to use a vegetable slicer or cheese slicer to slice bakery dough, or using a roller to form irregular shapes on the surface. By coming familiar daily items and processing existing tools to design models, new textures and flavours of cookies are born.

1 st Week: 25th May

Mr. Mitsuboshi and his students who has come all the way from Tokyo to Taiwan for this purpose took all of participants for a walk in Taipei. We searched for daily items with Taiwanese style that are not commonly used in Japan and incorporate them into cookie moulds. After returned back to our studio Onshitsu, we used various found molds made cookies together.
