The summer is coming to an end on August. In Tokyo, sometimes the weather isn’t as sunny, typhoon has comes in days and humidity is all over the city.SHIBAURA HOUSE also turns to summer holiday, it is a quite and peaceful month.
In front of SHIBAURA HOUSE’s entrance, we have planting banana tree, water and fertilize it every day. Now, this banana tree has started bearing fruit. Although they are still immature, we look forward to harvesting delicious bananas before this winter.
Barbecue at SHIBAURA HOUSE

On this August, SHIBAURA HOUSE welcomed some guests from local and abroad. Because we have been building friendship with University of Tennessee Knoxville (the U.S.) a year already, roughly 20 students come here for 3 months as Japan research project this year. SHIBAURA HOUSE homemade barbecue was prepared to welcome everyone. We made traditional taste of Japanese rice ball with miso-soup, and charcoal barbecue with many vegetables and meats. The students also had a nice communication with people from our local community - we blend together and enjoyed meal together.

Beach cinema

For building a cultural community, Shibaura City which is the local government near us, has been cooperating with SHIBAURA HOUSE in years. We mainly focus on building a communicative bridge between Shibaura government with local people through cultural actives. such as: pick up trash at Shibaura area, walking along the river side, or recycling book or clothes to create new items.
This year, we host cinema at seaside event with Shibaura office as same as last year.They were over 150 people came to the beach enjoined a Brazilian animated film ‘Perlimps’, it is a story about two secret agents working for enemy kingdoms, who are dispatched to the enchanted forest. They finally discovered they're on the same mission: To save the Perlimps from the terrible Giants that have surrounded the Forest.
Many families bring their kids and friends to the seaside, share dinner or cup of beer together on the beach. For the families walking with their pets also stopped to join the film. We end the night with a lot of joy.

Waterfront Fieldwork with Dr. Caroline Nevejan

Once you realize, a city is made of rhythms - skyscrapers, the flow of people, canals, or even a banana tree around the corner tune with us. One of our projects "Waterfront Circular Lab." supported by Minato Ward invited Caroline Nevejan, the chief science officer of the City of Amsterdam, who develops the methodologies and practices of multifaceted rhythm analysis. "How can we better understand the waterfront of our neighborhood?" With the question in mind, we embarked on an energetic fieldwork analyzing canals of the Shibaura neighbor, then taking a futurist Tokyo cruise Hotaluna crossing Tokyo Bay to Asakusa. Afterward, we presented our analysis in the citizens' workshop based on the fieldwork- stay tuned for the September brief for more!
