April brings new beginning

In April, Tokyo transitions from cherry blossoms to vibrant greenery. It's the first month of the fiscal year for companies and organizations in Japan. New graduates begin their careers, students move up or start fresh at school, and companies set new plans for the year ahead, just like SHIBAURA HOUSE, which is also embracing new changes this spring.

EVENT | Moon Kitchen

Date: April 7th
Location: SHIBAURA HOUSE @1F

The first "Moon Kitchen" after spring break welcomed a delightful group of volunteers all the way from Amsterdam---Ya’gel and his friends!
on 7th evening turned into an Italian Night, where volunteers prepared sweet potato and purple yam gnocchi with a refreshing parsley sauce, paired with a gentle-flavored potato and leek soup. The kitchen was filled with the lively voices of children, chatting in English as they washed vegetables, kneaded dough, and seasoned dishes. Together, they made over 150 gnocchi!

While the kids cooked, moms enjoyed relaxed conversations, older sisters read picture books to the little ones, and others played games or watched a film together.
This year, Moon Kitchen will continue to unfold under a variety of themes. We look forward to many more wonderful encounters and new stories being born here.

EVENT | Moon Kitchen

Date: April 14th & 21st
Location: SHIBAURA HOUSE @1F

On the evening of April 14th, we invited neighborhood children, one of our regular participants of Moon Kitchen, to lead a shared reading session, introducing picture books and stories in English. Yagel also came to support the event with us. For many who frequently visit SHIBAURA HOUSE, each participant feels like part of one big family. While mothers enjoyed conversations with friends, our staff spent time playing with the children, and the older kids naturally took care of the younger ones—helping them eat, playing games together, or reading stories aloud as a group. That evening’s menu featured seasonal dishes, including daikon and jako fish rice balls, onion miso soup, and fried tofu.

RELATIONS | Newspaper

Date: April 10th
Location: SHIBAURA HOUSE @1F

The Tamachi Newspaper Spring 2025 edition features SHIBAURA HOUSE’s weekly Wednesday circuit training event, hosted by the Mobile Gym team.Under the theme “Let’s Start Something New in Tamachi,” the paper also documents scenes from daily life at SHIBAURA HOUSE.This seasonal paper is edited by the not-gutter pressroom as one of our co-working members. We hope this spring brings even more beautiful stories to Tamachi.

RELATIONS | Net-Working Party

Date: April 23th
Location: SHIBAURA HOUSE @1F

We have around 40 groups working with us as co-working members, each with their own unique jobs and backgrounds—ranging from fortune tellers and dancers to pâtissiers, trainers, and students from Keio University. As staff, we’re constantly inspired by our daily interactions with them.

On April 23rd, we hosted a networking party. One of our former colleagues, Fuka, sent us a fresh, huge Katsuo (bonito) fish that her grandfather had caught himself in Wakayama Prefecture. Our staff member Takumi, who was especially excited, knows the best way to prepare Katsuo. That day, he brought straw from home and expertly seared the fish using a traditional straw-smoking method.

However, at the beginning of the cooking, the smoke was so intense that someone nearby mistook it for a fire and called the fire department. Within minutes, six fire engines and two police cars arrived at SHIBAURA HOUSE. We were completely shocked! After checking the situation and hearing that we were simply grilling a fish, the firefighters burst out laughing.

In the end, the Katsuo was the best Sashimi that we ever had before —we even wished we had shared some with them!

Although there was a moment of panic, thanks to Takumi and Fuka’s amazing katsuo, the day turned out to be a memorable and heartwarming one.
